You’ll notice a new tout in the left side bar linking the exceptional site Thinking For A Living. It’s not paid advertisement, I just love what Duane is doing with that site and more people need to head over there because it’s such a great resource for new and old designers. Duane is also joining AisleOne as an author and will be contributing when he can. So give him a warm welcome and spread the word about his site.

A Brief History Of Avant Garde

Here’s an excellent article over at Thinking For A Living on the history of one of my favorite typefaces, Avant Garde.
The Time Has Finally Come

I’m upgraded to this bad boy today. Last night I installed an unofficially version of the 2.0 software so I can play around with all the new apps and I must say this new phase of the iPhone is going to be revolutionary, not that the first phase wasn’t. The third party applications and games are mind blowing. Nothing you’ve ever seen on a mobile device.
HelloMe

Till Wiedeck is a third year graphic design student and freelance graphic designer from Muenster. His work has been posted recently on a few design blogs and there’s a reason why. It’s really fucking good.
Die Neue Gesellschaft

I’ve been searching for months and months now for a single copy of Die Neue Gesellschaft, a political magazine that was art directed by Helmut Schmid, but they seem to be extremely rare. I was able to get in touch with some people who curate Schmid’s work and they sent over some original scans of the covers which are just gorgeous. I’m trying to get them to send over more but they haven’t replied to me in a while. In the meantime drool over these. This design was first used in 1974 with issue #7 and remained in use until 1981.
Honestly, I would pay good money for a complete set of these. I’m so obsessed with them.
Unimark International

A simple site that takes you through a brief history of the world’s largest design firm, Unimark International. Founded by Ralph Eckerstrom and Massimo Vignelli, Unimark only lasted 13 years but some of the most famous corporate identities were born behind its doors. My favorite is the work done for Memorex.
