80 20 100 Catalogue

8020100catalogue.jpg

Eye Magazine just posted some images of the Crouwel 80 20 100 exhibit catalogue designed by David Quay. Very nice indeed. I love how all the pages have a visible grid. One unfortunate thing about catalogue is that a good chunk of it is in black and white. Bummer.

You can download a PDF version of the catalogue to get a good look at it or you can order a copy for yourself and enjoy it in the comfort of your home.

The Vivid Gallery site has a small photo gallery of the event. I wish I were able to attend. Did anyone get to go? How was it?

Sneak Peak of a New Typeface

newface.jpg

I recently started working on a new typeface. I’m still in the early stages but I do like where it’s going with the curved edges and slightly condensed design. The plan is the do a full upper & lower case set in bold and regular with a large x-height for the lower case characters.

You can see a few more shots on my Flickr page. I’ll be updated this page as the work progresses.

Elegant Stationery

xavier_stationary.jpg

This new stationary by Xavier Encinas is very simple but at the same time very elegant. Some people might accuse this of not being “designed” but to me the most talented designers can take something so simple and make it extraordinary.

Xavier had these letterpress on 700gr Sirio black paper with silver ink and set everything in Helvetica Neue Bold.

NetNewsWire Style 2.5

netnewswirestyle25.jpg

Version 2.5 of my NetNewsWire style is now available. The design is simple and clean with a great deal of focus on typography and legibility. In this new version I’ve made some improvements that will enhance the reading experience.

Another enhancement that I was hoping to implement was a consistent vertical baseline. But because of inconsistencies within RSS feeds it was very difficult to accomplish, probably even impossible. For example in certain feeds blocks of copy are not wrapped in the paragraph tag, instead just use the break tag. For this reason it’s hard to control the text and elements like images.

Anyhow, I’m very exited about the features I was able to add.

New Features in Version 2.5

  • Widows
Prevention of typographic widows in titles and body copy via jQWidon’t.

  • Capitalization
All words in title are capitalized.

  • Image Resize
Images wider than 600px are resized to fit the fixed width of the style.

Special thanks to Oliver Boermans for helping me with some bugs.
