Type Factory

type_factory.jpg

Fascinating branding work by University College Falmouth student, Huda Abdul Aziz. Type Factory is a full branding project for a fictional typographic museum in South Kensington. The project was awarded a merit by ISTD. I think this is a great example of how masking parts of the characters can create an interesting form, while not disturbing the legibility of the type.

Here’s more from the designer about the idea behind the project:

The concept revolves around the theme of deconstruction. The brand values of the Type Factory identity are informative, engaging and dynamic. The brand promise is about seeing type differently. The design solution includes the logo, a booklet to promote the venue, advertising and applications within the museum.

Anthologie de Musique Suisse Plakat

musique_poster.jpg

Check out this stunning poster by the legendary Josef Müller-Brockmann. I’ve never seen this poster design before so it’s gotten me really excited! I’ll have to check my Brockmann books to see if it’s in there, but I don’t recall ever seeing it.

The color palette and the use of a few circles to create the shape of a record make this design stunning. But my favorite part of it all is how the typography, even though staggered, still lines up to a sound grid system. Brilliant.

You can grab this poster on eBay for $300. I’m so tempted.

Polygon Typeface

Washington D.C. based designer Andy Babb has created Polygon, a typeface built on a strict grid of equilateral triangles. Lovely idea and execution. Designing a typeface on a triangle grid does create some interesting forms.

To go along with the typeface, Andy has designed a poster displaying Polygon in use. It’s screen printed with red and silver ink on pink 110lb paper. It’s gorgeous.

Counter Print

Counter-print.co.uk is a new site aimed at the sale of out of print and hard to find Art & Design related material. I’ve been wanting something like this for a long time. The site already has a bunch of gems on there, like this Stedelijk Museum catalog designed by Wim Crouwel. This site’s not going to be kind on my wallet.
