Dino’s Pizza

Dinos pizza site

I recently just finished a simple site for my families pizzeria, Dino’s Pizza. It’s a one-pager that has a responsive layout, accommodating screen widths from 1280px all the down to an iPhone. Fluid site design is the way to go in my opinion, especially now that people are viewing sites on multiple devices. I used the 1140 CSS framework as the base for my code, and then tweaked it from there.

Overall, I’m happy with it. I wanted to do more with animation, but I really didn’t have the time.

Pierre Mendell

Pierre mendell

Pierre Mendell (1929 – 2008) was a graphic designer that studied design under Armin Hofmann at the Schule für Gestaltung in Basel and later went on to form the Mendell & Oberer studioin 1961 in Munich. Mendell is best known for his work identity work Vitra and Siemens.

The MoMA has a small, but great, gallery of some of his work.

Salone Posters

Salone posters

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is a trade fair that was formed in 1961 that is a showcase of excellent Italian furniture. Dwell has featured a great gallery showing the evolution of the event posters. My favorites are pictured here. Both were designed by by Alberto Longhi, the top in 1968, and the one below was done in 1976. You can find some additional information here.

IL Magazine

Il magazine

IL Magazine, the monthly news magazine of Italian financial newspaper, Il Sole 24 ORE, sports a fresh new design and layout by Francesco Franchi. Really nice work, and I love the cover.

The new ‘IL’ lettering was created by Christian Schwartz and all the typefaces used in the magazine are designed by Kris Sowersby.

Francesco also informed me that the grid that he used for the redesign was designed by Karl Gerstner. Very sweet.

You can see a Flickr set of the some of the spreads. Great work.

ABC Verlag

Abc verlag

ABC Verlag (Edition) was a book publisher based in Zurich, Switzerland that released a superb collection of graphic design and fine art books between 1962-1989. I’ve been personally obsessed with these books and have been on a hunt for them for the last 4 years. They contain some of the best graphic design of the last century, and each book covers a different topic.

I recently uploaded photos to my Flickr of my three most recent additions to my collection:

History of the Poster – 1971 – Josef Müller-Brockmann
Design Concept Realisation – 1975 – Wolfgang Schmittel
Color Sells Your Package – 1969 – J.P. Favre

I can get lost in this stuff for days.
