More Rare Swiss Design Books
These next two additions to my collection have to be the most rare and the most expensive but also the most satisfying. Publicity and Graphic Design in the Chemical Industry (1967) and Graphic Design in Swiss Industry (1965) are both by Hans Neuberg and are part of the excellent ABC Verlag collection and contain page after page of some of the finest design work you’ll ever see. From packaging to letterheads these books will keep you hypnotized for hours… if you can find them.
You can see more photos from both books on my Flickr page.
Design Goodies
I just posted on my Flickr page some sweet design goodies that a few generous designers sent to me.
First we have a two-sided poster designed by Josh Gomby for the Rochester Institute of Technology screening of the Helvetica documentary. Josh was kind enough to send me two copies of this.
Then there’s an invite for the Helvetica 50 exhibition designed and sent to me by Xavier Encinas of peter&wendy.
Lastly, Robin Uleman surprised me with two beautiful booklets he designed for Premsela.
You can check out more photos of each piece on my Flickr page.
Brauer Neue
Brauer Neue is a beautiful typefaced designed by the talented Swiss studio Elektrosmog. Brauer was originally designed by Pierre Miedinger (a nephew of Helvetica designer, Max Miedinger) for a Zurich based brewery called Brauerei Hürlimann. Below are two posters designed by Josef Müller-Brockmann in 1978 that feature the original typeface designed by Miedinger. Elektrosmog took this lost typeface and extended it into a full character set which includes Regular, Bold and Black weights.
You can purchase Brauer Neue from Lineto.
Co-Op
Helvetica Paper
Interesting little project by 20 year old designer Kasper Ledet of a hand made type based on Helvetica. Kasper printed a pattern on sticker sheets and cut out the letters with a scalpel. Very nice.
