Read Between the Leading

Aaron Heth and Matt McInerney, both students at the Savannah College of Art & Design, have created a podcast called Read Between the Leading that focuses on design and typography. They’ve only done 4 episodes but so far the discussions have been intelligent, engaging and interesting. This show is going to be big.

For episode 4, Aaron and Matt invited me on as a guest and we chatted about grid systems and the new Tropicana packaging. Have a listen and definitely check out the previous episodes as well.

And for all those Twitter users out there, Aaron and Matt also created, a single serving twitter app that searches twitter for the hashtag #typoholism and displays it on this page.

  1. I really enjoyed listening to this. The variations of accents gave it a very global feel (joke). Really agree with most of the tropicana discussion. Had a good topic about it on my own Web site, and I think George Thompson says it best, communicating that Tropicana probably didn’t even need a new design. Without the reasoning, there is no purpose to the redesign and ultimately a failure of research.

  2. Patrick, glad you enjoyed the episode. I agree that in the end, Tropicana probably never needed a redesign. But the reaction to the new design has surprised me. I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

  3. Neither did I. Especially for myself who doesn’t have any nostalgic connection to the previous design, since I live in a far off country. I think the new design is pretty neat. On the flipside, it’s really fun to read the tons of blog posts totally being melodramatic and making a fuss about nothing.
