Highway Signs
August 14th, 2007A great slideshow by The New York Times showing how the typeface used on highway signs was improved to create better legibility. What’s really interesting is how they used a proportion-based grid system to create an overall layout system to be used across all signs.

Typography Class
August 10th, 2007Can’t remember how I found this but check out this blog by Todd Roeth, Assistant Professor at Marietta College. Seems like Todd teaches a typography class called GRPH: 210 Typography and he posts the lessons on his blog. Some of the stuff is pretty basic but it’s still a good resource none the less.

Apple Keyboard
August 8th, 2007Everyone is focused on the new iMac’s, which are wonderful, but I’m drooling over the new keyboards that Apple has released. The design is so simple but at the same time beautiful and I love the materials used. One thing I don’t like is that the wireless one is a compacted version. I wish they made it a full keyboard.

Liten Ljus Lager
August 3rd, 2007Found this at this blog while surfing the interweb. Great packaging design for this Swedish beer. Simple and graphic, I love it. I wish more brands would do stuff as good as this instead of slapping some ugly ass design onto their products. As least Coke is getting it.

Volcomics Poster
August 3rd, 2007Volcom just released this amazing poster by Jim Phillips and Matt French. I can look at this thing for ours. The detail and the colors are just superb. They only made 200 of these so pick one up before they’re gone. I’m definitely adding this to my collection.
Now is your chance to own a piece of history. We have a few dozen limited edition posters leftover from the first Volcomics shows, that can now be yours for the low price of $100. They are 38 x 45 inches, 12-color screen printed black-light posters, all inked, color-seperated, press checked and signed by Jim Phillips and Matt French. There were only 200 posters made for our Volcomics Issue #1.
