Blogging Software
August 30th, 2007A little off topic but I wanted to get some input from you guys on which blogging software is the best. Currently this blog runs on WordPress and I’ve been considering to change the software for some time now. The main reason is because I want software that will make it easy for me to create the design I want and not have to use all these cookie cutter designs. I’m not even sure something like this exists. I know HTML and CSS but at the same time I don’t want to have to learn the entire template system for a specific software. I’m probably dreaming but is there a blogging software out there that would make it easier to implement an original design? Or is WordPress good enough? I’ve been researching and it seems like the top systems are Expression Engine, Movable Type, Textpattern and WordPress. I’d like to hear from people who have experience with any of these blogging systems or any other ones that I haven’t mentioned.

Logo
August 27th, 2007I don’t know about everyone else but when I sit down to create a logo I need as much inspiration as I can get. More so than when I have to design a website or business card. The soon to be released book Logo by Michael Evamy is that inspirational resource that everyone designer can use. I’m definitely picking this one up.
The logo bible, this book provides graphic designers with an indispensable reference source for contemporary logo design. More than 1300 logos are grouped according to their focal form, symbol, and graphic associations into 75 categories such as crosses, stars, crowns, animals, people, handwritten, illustrative type, etc. To emphasize the visual form of the logos, they are shown predominantly in black and white.
By sorting a vast, international array of current logotypes ranging from those of small, design-led businesses to global brands the book offers design consultancies a ready resource to draw on in the research phase of identity projects. Logos are also indexed alphabetically by name of company/designer and by industrial sector, making it easy to piece together a picture of the state of the identity art in any client’s marketplace.

Grant Hamilton Photography
August 23rd, 2007My other creative passion, besides design and typography, is photography. I just wish I had more time to focus on it but Grant Hamilton is someone who is excellent at taking stunning photos. My buddy Alex directed me to his work and his Polaroid portfolio just blows my mind. The colors, compositions and content of his photos are top notch. It’s almost graphic like. Definitely one of my new favorite photographers.

Enotmik
August 22nd, 2007I started this typeface back in April and haven’t really touched it in a month or so. Before my hiatus I figured out a few of the rules on certain letter combinations and I also started on a light version. I’ve been meaning to get back on this so I can finish it up but I’m just dreading the thought of having to create a font out of this. I love designing the characters but when I took a look at some of the font applications out there it really killed my motivation. I know it’s part of the process but I’ve always hated the “production” part of any project.
Anyway, let me know what you think.
