T-Mobile has some balls and I can’t believe that a company can own the rights to a color, let alone Magenta. That’s just ridiculous. Seems like the people in the Netherlands aren’t happy about this. Can anyone confirm if you get this dialog message when selecting pure magenta in CS3? I have a hard time believe that you do.
In The Netherlands, a social movement is born to protect the free use of the magenta colour in communication materials. The fight has begun recently, when mobile carrier T-Mobile has started a legal fight versus a series of Dutch brands such as Slam FM, Compello and 100% NL which magenta in their logo.

The guys over at Brand New have an interesting take on the awful NYC TAXI logo. Personally I hate it but I see how you can give Wolff Olins a tiny tiny bit of a pass. Seems like there was a lot of politics involved but I still think as a branding agency you have to work around those issues and put out the best work possible. There is definitely a better solution than this. At least they used a grid to create the NYC part of the logo.

Nice work by Swiss designer Lorenzo Geiger.

Linotype is hosting a poster contest to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Helvetica. They’ve received more than 1,000 submissions and I’ve never seen a bigger collection of crap in my entire life. 5 pages to be exact. Is there really this many crappy designers in the world? Fortunately, in the midst of this pile there are some really great designs and I’ve featured a few of them above. I really wanted to submit a design for this contest but I didn’t have the time which is unfortunate. Anyways, go vote!
