To the left is the paste up of a 1962 poster titled “Musikinstrumente”, by Richard Paul Lohse. Below is the final poster design. It’s incredible what designers had to do to layout a design back in those days when computers weren’t standard. Definitely a certain level of craft was involved that is probably now lost.

It’s always great seeing how it was done. I make sure to remember, too. While I am grateful for my 27 inch iMac, once the day comes it finally kicks it, I may not have the means for something new right away or ever. So, what do I do, give up design? No, paste up, even if only as a hobby. It is, after all, how I pretty much started, at 14, using the copy machine at my mom’s work.
awesome work. truly a craft.
Where did you find the paste-up picture ? i never saw it before ! nice find !
