Here is a brilliant article by Michael Bierut on different reasons why we choose certain typefaces. I personally only use a handful of typefaces for my work, Helvetica, Avant Garde, Gravur, Futura and Univers. Sometimes I’ll throw in other typefaces or if a specific client or project requires a specific one I’ll change it up, but for the most part these are my main guys.

Domyouji

Typodermic releases a sweet san-serif called Domyouji. I dig it. I especially like the W and K. I actually designed a K just like that for a typeface I’m working on. Weird.
Domyouji was designed as a high-tech body copy companion to Korataki. With a nod to Handel Gothic, Domyouji brings the square-sans into the 21st Century.

Helvetica and Alternatives to Helvetica

Great article over at Font Shop about other sans serif fonts that have a similiar feel as Helvetica.

Making Known

My jaw dropped when I first layed eyes on Ryan Nelson’s work. His typography skills are exceptional and I don’t think there is a single piece in his portfolio that is mediocre. It’s definitely worth checking out.
