Album Anatomy

Album Anatomy is a personal project by Duane Dalton where he explores the imagery of some of his favorite albums. He started the project in 2011 and it’s now up to 70 designs.

An exploration in the art of reduction. This personal project breaks down album imagery into its purist form by discarding any unnecessary information. This is achieved using a strict grid that displays the relevant album details, which leaves a central void to convey a response to the album. This void is filled by my personal response to an album. It can be influenced by the cover art, a key track or the overall flavour of the album. The chosen albums have had an influential and personal impact on me. It is music I listen to over and over again or more excitingly rediscover.

I usually hate when the swiss style is abused and used a gimmick, but this is fun. Graphic designer Mike Joyce has taken vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers and redesigned them in the International Typographic Style.

Outliers Vol. I: Iceland

Outliers Vol1: Iceland

Tim Navis and Kim Høltermand are joining film collective Scenic and composer Deru to bring us Outliers: a beautifully packaged box set of film and music. The team will create a series of short films at various locations throughout Iceland, inspired by moments of discovery and chance occurrence. Scenic will edit a series of short films, featuring an original score by Deru and a full-length soundtrack featuring contributions from select musicians and contemporary composers. Tim and Kim will create an archival photo book and release a limited run of exclusive prints.

This sounds amazing. I’m personally in love with Tim’s and Kim’s photos, so this should be an incredible collection of images.

They put together a Kickstarter to help fund the project. Help fund it and you’ll get some limited edition goodies.

File Magazine

I’m digging this.

File Magazine is a bi-annual publication that focuses on graphic design, art and visual communication and includes a DVD that features shorts, videos, interviews and more. Each issue also features a limited edition print.

They’ve just released their first issue which can be purchased for £6.50.

Jazz Record Covers

I found this MASSIVE collection of Jazz record covers so big that I didn’t have enough time to go through it all. But the stuff that I did see is absolutely amazing. There are even hi-res versions of each cover.

Burt Bacharach Vinyl Record Cover

This weekend I was in Virgin and I picked up this Burt Bacharach record. Not because I’m a fan of his music but because I love the slip cover design. So simple but beautiful. Great example of the International Typographic Style. I have to do some investigating and find out who designed this.

Extra credit points for anyone who can name that typeface.

You can check out more photos of this lovely cover on my Flickr page.
