Here’s a wonderful Flickr set of a promotional publication called From Helvetica To Haas Unica by Team’77 that takes you through the development process of Haas Unica. The publication analyzes the Helvetica forms and illustrates the difference between it and Haas Unica. What’s interesting is that Unica was created as an improvement over the the […]
This weekend I was in Virgin and I picked up this Burt Bacharach record. Not because I’m a fan of his music but because I love the slip cover design. So simple but beautiful. Great example of the International Typographic Style. I have to do some investigating and find out who designed this.
Extra credit points for […]
Great article by Steven Heller of the NY Times on the typeface used in John McCain’s presidential campaign. The McCain logo is set in Optima Bold and Heller asked a few designers, which include Michael Bierut, Ellen Lupton and Matthew Carter, two questions: What does Optima say about John McCain? And should this, or […]

Brauer Neue is a beautiful typefaced designed by the talented Swiss studio Elektrosmog. Brauer was originally designed by Pierre Miedinger (a nephew of Helvetica designer, Max Miedinger) for a Zurich based brewery called Brauerei Hürlimann. Below are two posters designed by Josef Müller-Brockmann in 1978 that feature the original typeface designed by Miedinger. Elektrosmog took […]
Interesting little project by 20 year old designer Kasper Ledet of a hand made type based on Helvetica. Kasper printed a pattern on sticker sheets and cut out the letters with a scalpel. Very nice.

I saw this typeface today on a huge billboard in Times Square and for the life of me I can’t remember the name of this face. I know I’ve used it before. Anyone know?

This beautiful specimen just arrived today. A Sign Systems Manual by Theo Crosby, Alan Fletcher and Colin Forbes illustrates and describes a simple basic system for designing, contracting and displaying signs. It also dives into the history of alphabets and the development of type. It’s an excellent inspirational resource jam packed with pages and pages […]
Completed in 1966 and installed in the cafeteria of the CBS building, the Gastrotypographicalassemblage wall of type was created by legendary designers Lou Dorfsman and Herb Lubalin. The wall remained in the CBS cafeteria for over 20 years until it was removed in the 80’s and left to rot somewhere. It might have been lost […]

I only use handful of typefaces, mainly classics like Helvetica, Univers, Akzidenz Grotesk, Avant Garde and Futura, and I’m not a firm believer of using multiple typefaces in a design. So it’s rare when I find a modern typeface that gets my design juices flowing, and today I’ve found two.
Social Gothic is a new typeface […]

I’m not much of a serif guy but I do love ITC Lubalin Graph. It’s basically a serif version of Avant Garde designed in 1974 by Herb Lubalin. The forms are identical in both typefaces, but Lubalin Graph contains slab serifs giving it the beauty of Avant Garde but with a more traditional feel. I […]
Print Design and Industry is the online portfolio of Aaron Pou, who’s created this beautiful Helvetica poster.
