Burt Bacharach Vinyl Record Cover
May 5, 2008

This weekend I was in Virgin and I picked up this Burt Bacharach record. Not because I’m a fan of his music but because I love the slip cover design. So simple but beautiful. Great example of the International Typographic Style. I have to do some investigating and find out who designed this.

McCain’s Typeface
April 22, 2008

Great article by Steven Heller of the NY Times on the typeface used in John McCain’s presidential campaign. The McCain logo is set in Optima Bold and Heller asked a few designers, which include Michael Bierut, Ellen Lupton and Matthew Carter, two questions: What does Optima say about John McCain? And should this, or […]

Below are two posters designed by Josef Müller-Brockmann in 1978 that feature the original typeface designed by Miedinger. Elektrosmog took […]

Helvetica Paper
April 9, 2008

Interesting little project by 20 year old designer Kasper Ledet of a hand made type based on Helvetica. Kasper printed a pattern on sticker sheets and cut out the letters with a scalpel. Very nice.

Social Gothic
March 4, 2008

I only use handful of typefaces, mainly classics like Helvetica, Univers, Akzidenz Grotesk, Avant Garde and Futura, and I’m not a firm believer of using multiple typefaces in a design. So it’s rare when I find a modern typeface that gets my design juices flowing, and today I’ve found two.

ITC Lubalin Graph
February 12, 2008

I’m not much of a serif guy but I do love ITC Lubalin Graph. It’s basically a serif version of Avant Garde designed in 1974 by Herb Lubalin. The forms are identical in both typefaces, but Lubalin Graph contains slab serifs giving it the beauty of Avant Garde but with a more traditional feel. I […]
