Anouk Rehorek
January 8th, 2010Even though I’ve never done it, I love magazine design. Something about seeing a well-designed spread get’s my creative juices flowing. It’s unfortunate that the magazine industry is hurting because I’d hate to lose all the great creative.
Some of the best magazine designs I’ve seen are by Swiss graphic designer, Anouk Rehorek. His use of black and white color along with serif type is stunning and the way he integrates imagery really creates a perfect balance.

The Grid System Featured in Creative Review Magazine
January 28th, 2009A few weeks ago Creative Review Magazine contacted me about doing a small piece in their February issue about my site The Grid System. I just received a copy they sent me (I couldn’t find one in NYC believe it or not) and I think they did a great job with the piece. I’m deeply honored that I was asked to be included in the pages of this quality magazine and want to thank the folks over at CR for asking me to participate.
Head over to my flickr page to see more.
PS: Sorry for the terrible photos. My camera is a piece of junk and I need to replace it ASAP!

Null Acht Magazine
November 19th, 2008I have a certain obsession with magazine. Most of the time I could careless what the content is, I’m more concerned with the format and the design. For the most part, I buy magazines because they look pretty and the design inspires me.
Take this magazine for example. Null Acht is an Austrian newspaper/magazine about Soccer (Football for you folks over the pond) designed by Alois Gstöttner. I can’t read it and I’m not particularly interested in Soccer, unless of course it’s the World Cup and Italy is playing, but the design definitely gets my attention. I personally love when I see magazines like this where the design has been paid much attention. Monocle is another well designed magazine that comes to mind. Null Acht is absolutely stunning if ask me. I have to get my greedy little hands on a copy. You can see more images of the mag over at Form Fifty Five.
Also, check out magCulture, a blog about magazine and newspaper design.
On a side note, one of my graphic design dreams is to design a full magazine or newspaper and it might happen very soon. Stay tuned.
