Here’s some more great design for Pan Am. These city guides were designed by George Tscherny in the early 70s, who’s also responsible for this stunning menu design.

I really loved this poster for it’s International Typographic Style look, but then I quicklyrealized that it’s very similar to another poster that I love. Hmmm.

Anyway, design studio Jung + Wenig has a solid portfolio worth checking out.

    The Sameness Booklet

The art and cultural movement, De Stijl, promoted abstraction by simplify design to its most basic elements and utilizing vertical and horizontal orientations and primary colors.

The Sameness Booklet by Alex Fuller and Gabe Usadel pays homage to this Dutch movement with some beautiful, but simple spreads using only red, black and white. This stunning piece is offset printed and is typeset in Akzidenz Grotesk. Alex and Gabe are also responsible for a equally wonderful booklet titled: The Incredible Journey that is Consciousness.

You can order a copy of the book for $12.

    10 Penneth

The always inspiring Craig Oldham has created a small booklet titled 10 Penneth that spawned off of a lecture series he gave to graphic design students. The booklet is a series of short essays that help students become better graphic designers and better understand the profession.

The design aesthetic doesn’t fall in line with what usually gets posted here, but I think the principles behind it are the same. The execution is beautiful in my opinion, minimal and visually interesting.

I personally love any project that educates students on graphic design, especially when they’re free! That’s right, Craig will send you a free copy of the booklet as long as you cover a small postal fee. Just shoot him an email.

    Naturalis x5

I try really hard not to post work that’s been heavily blogged about on other design sites, but sometimes I do make exceptions. This is one of them.

Rich Lyons, AKA Breakmould, is now working at Sea and he contacted me about Naturalis, a sexy new promo that they’ve just finished up for the UK paper company GF Smith.

The 24 page promo is printed on the GF Smith’s Naturalis Smooth Absolute White (330gsm/160gsm) and features Pearlescent foiling on the front and back covers. The launch is to be accompanied by a limited edition of 200 posters, also featuring foiled text.

The fifth in the series of ‘Naturalis’ from GF Smith features compelling photographs by celebrated Art Director Peter Saville and artist Anna Blessmann at the Tulis Russell paper mill in Fife.

Naturalis x5 is launched on November 5th in Manchester. Contact GF Smith for further details.

You can check out more photos of the work at my Flickr page.
