In 2001 graphic design students Daniel Fritz and Maik Stapelberg created the 7th issue of their school magazine, Akademische Mitteilungen (Academic Announcements). Their professor at State Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart had the idea of creating a magazine which should be designed and published by students. Each issue is done by a different group of students and Daniel and Maik created the seventh issue on the topic of communication.
AM7 is beautiful from start to finish but unfortunately it’s no longer in print. The site for AM7 is still up, which has a gallery of the pages, and Japanese mag Shift has an interview with the editors on their site. Daniel and Maik also designed a poster to coincide with the magazine that’s for sale by You Work For Them.
If anyone knows where I can get a copy please contact me. Thanks.

The folks at The Graphic Aware have just published the first issue of their Small Talk, A Collection Of Irrelevance series, an experiment into typography.
It is an experiment in the role and perception of spoken language in contemporary culture, taking words that were intended only to occupy time and placing them into a space as printed or constructed forms, placing the human voice back into the foreground of culture.

Graphic designer Richard Weston, who also runs a nice blog called Ace Jet 170, has just created an awesome Flickr set of his Pelican Book collection. These books have beautiful covers which were mostly designed by Romek Marber, who also created the Marber Grid. Here is my personal favorite.

Veer has this nice Helvetica notebook available. I actually purchased the book last week and also received a free one at the Helvetica movie premiere. Order one and you’ll be the cool guy in the next meeting.
Choose sides in the design world’s love/hate relationship with Helvetica, or have it both ways. This two-sided notebook features a loving quote in Helvetica Std on one cover, then flips to reveal a darker intent. Ruled throughout with additional quotes in unobtrusive 3 pt. type. Favor one side or work from both, toward the middle. A center divider keeps the peace. 192 pages, 6 3/4″ x 8 1/2″.
Featuring quotes from Helvetica, a documentary film by Gary Hustwit, co-produced by Veer.
