Elegant Stationery

xavier_stationary.jpg

This new stationary by Xavier Encinas is very simple but at the same time very elegant. Some people might accuse this of not being “designed” but to me the most talented designers can take something so simple and make it extraordinary.

Xavier had these letterpress on 700gr Sirio black paper with silver ink and set everything in Helvetica Neue Bold.

  1. This card looks great! I hope Xavier will add things to his site so we can see more.
The idea that minimalistic things are “not designed” is something I’ve run into before, and it’s really maddening. I think it reflects a lack of understanding of what modernism is and an unfamiliarity with minimalistic design.
I think a lot of people think of the design process as starting with a blank page and then adding things — typefaces, colors, illustrations, color, variations in size, weight, etc.
If they don’t see a lot of things “added,” then they think the process hasn’t occurred — if it’s a client, they wonder what they’re paying for.
I’m not sure what the solution to this is… as an American I’m always assuming it’s because people in the U.S. are pretty design illiterate. Is it like this in European countries?

  2. Lovely Flickr set Xavier! I heart your work on “Guide des Admiscibles”. The tabs you incorporated on the booklet are dead sexy.
