I usually hate when the swiss style is abused and used a gimmick, but this is fun. Graphic designer Mike Joyce has taken vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers and redesigned them in the International Typographic Style.

So wrong, on so many levels.
I don’t know Fishbone, but I do know Stooges & Ramones, and a poster like that sure doesn’t communicate how the music sounds or their raw punk attitude.
I’m allergic to all this generic non-sense. Same for movie/band posters in the same style.
I don’t think the designer was trying to reinvent the posters. That’s not the point here. He even explains that the two have nothing in common. It’s more a simple exercise. The focus is on the style, not the posters themselves. The content can be anything, really. What’s different here, from all the other minimal poster designs that have popped up, is that most of these are recreations of classic poster designs. It’s a fun execution, nothing more. There’s nothing wrong with this. People are looking too into it.
I agree, they’re really nice executions with good and funny ideas, not just one more guy insulting Swiss design history.
This is different, an experiment; and I’m sure it was fun to do it.
I really like them; the site, too. Even if it is a ‘bit of an insult’ (which I don’t think it is) to Swiss design history, it is a great way to show of the style. Lots of great reference material and practice visuals for up-and-coming designers – such as myself – who love the style but need a bit of focus, too.
Aren’t personal projects there for a designer to hone his or her skills? Bravo to Mr Joyce for putting this one together and showcasing some great art and great taste.
